What to expect at a nutrition visit

Alison will...

  1. Review your medical history, weight history and will help you establish a healthy, realistic weight goal.
  2. Review your current eating habits and current exercise routine, then create a game plan for you to be successful.
  3. Educate you on healthy foods choices, food labels & behavioral changes as needed.
  4. Provide individualized solutions—focused nutrition plan, shopping lists, and other appropriate handouts.
  5. Teach you diabetes self management, including blood sugar testing, to prevent diabetes related complications.

Follow up sessions are greatly encouraged for most clients. The frequency of follow up visits varies per client and will be discussed during the visit.

Health Insurance Coverage/ Payment:

Alison accepts most health insurances and offers private pay options.

*It is the patient’s responsibility to verify insurance coverage for nutrition counseling. Here is what to do before the appointment: Call the member services number listed in the back of your health insurance card. Ask the following questions:
• My diagnosis/ reason for visit is: ____________. Will this be covered?
• Is a referral required?
• Is there a co-payment?
• Is there a deductible?
• How many visits are covered and over what time frame?

Insurance companies accepted:

  • Aetna
  • Blue Cross & Blue Shield
  • Cigna
  • Harvard Pilgrim
  • Medicare
  • Tufts
  • United Healthcare
  • Fallon

*Nutrition counseling by a Registered Dietitian is covered by most major insurance companies. Individuals need to  check with their insurance plan for coverage prior to the visit. Most plans do require a referral from the patient's primary care doctor.

Flex Spending Accounts

If you have a flex spending account through your employer we can accept that for payment of co-pays, deductibles and all private pay options.

Co-payments are due at time of appointment.
• A $25 cancellation fee will be charged to any new or returning patient who misses an appointment without giving 24 hour notice.
